Code of Ethics

As a higher education administrator I understand that there will be times when ethical dilemmas might occur.  I understand that there could be conflict of interest.  There will be changes that will be difficult to accept and navigate through.  There will be times I am called to lead.  I am bound by the mission and vision of my institution.  I am bound by its rules and regulations.  I am bound by governing bodies.  I am bound by policies.  I am also bound by my own moral obligation as a human being.

I promise the following, to the best of my ability, as my code of ethics...

I promise to be Honest
To consistently seek out and speak the truth; to be true to my word.  To exercise transparency and strive for clarity.  To share my thoughts and feelings in a way that is productive, ethical, and kind.

I promise to be Respectful
To value self, others, property and diversity.  To strive my hardest to learn about people and cultures.  To be mindful of words that could be misunderstood.

I promise to be Responsible
To be accountable for my actions towards myself, others, and the community.  To be fiscally responsible with funding.  To be timely.

I promise to be Compassionate

To show care and kindness for others by helping those who are in need.  To exercise empathy.  To pay attention and to listen.

I promise to be Just
To consider the perspective of others and to demonstrate the courage to be consistently fair.  To adhere to the rules and policies of the college.

I promise to be Fair
To treat people equally and make decisions without favoritism or prejudice.  To research both sides or perspectives.  To be mindful of each others strengths.

I promise to be Industrious
To realize the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards of putting forth efforts to achieve personal goals.  To be curious and to thoroughly consider all options to discover the best solution.  To be productive and not waste time.  To maximize my efforts every day.

I promise to Learn
To seek out new technologies.  To learn new philosophies and systems.  To encourage the professional development of my team.

I promise to Inspire
To lead others through times of challenge.  To prepare others for change. To be kind and to go out of the way to make someone's day brighter.  To earn their trust.  To be their voice.

I promise to play to my Strengths
To be curious and gather information (input).  To arrange my day to optimize productivity (arranger). To care about and encourage my team (relator). To show others an optimistic point of view (positivity). To utilize all of my strengths, and the strengths of my team, to achieve the greatest success. (maximizer).

  1. Wendy, this is an excellent code of ethics. Very thorough and well designed. I really liked your various categories. I highly recommend you consider posting this at a work station and/sharing it with colleagues. I know I would love to work side by side with someone who has and lives your code of ethics. Rog
